F1 The Movie: Experience Racing Like Never Before

The upcoming F1 movie, already being slated as the blockbuster event of the summer and starring Brad Pitt, isn’t just about speed and drama, but also a celebration of Mercedes-Benz engineering and global legacy. At Mercedes-Benz of Sugar Land, we’re beyond excited to see our brand featured in one of the most anticipated motorsports films ever made.

Produced by the legendary Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Joseph Kosinski—the visionary behind Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy—the film stars Brad Pitt as a former F1 driver making a high-stakes comeback with a fictional team called APXGP. While the team may be fictional, the racing is entirely real. Filming took place over 18 months, in 21 countries, capturing footage amidst 14 real-life Formula 1 Grands Prix. What audiences will experience isn’t green-screen simulations or stylized replays—it’s real cars, on real tracks, moving at real speeds.

Mercedes-AMG® designed and supplied the F1 cars featured in the movie. While the film uses actual F1 cars and racers, the “APXGP” team’s cars are modified Formula 2 vehicles. Mercedes-AMG® also created a special edition AMG® GT 63 “APXGP Edition”, inspired by the film’s fictional team and livery.

What truly sets this film apart is the stars that are behind the wheel. Brad Pitt and co-star Damson Idris underwent extensive driver training to prepare for their roles, learning professional racing techniques and reaching speeds of up to 180 MPH in modified Formula cars. Seven-time World Champion and former Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who served as a producer and consultant on the film, mentored the actors to ensure their on-track performance matched the intensity and precision of real Formula 1 racing.

From the start, Kosinski set out to create “the most authentic, realistic, and grounded racing movie ever made,” a vision brought to life with the help of the Mercedes-AMG® Petronas Formula One Team. Their deep involvement, from designing the car using real F1 chassis and aerodynamics to providing technical consulting, ensures every detail feels true to life. Combined with custom-designed IMAX-certified cameras mounted directly to the race cars, the result is a visceral, front-row-seat experience that throws audiences into the cockpit with an unmatched sense of realism.
