Teen Driving Experience Returns with Simulator Upgrade

On March 7th, we kicked off the return of our Teen Driving Experience at MSR Houston, launching the first installment of the program for 2026. Designed to give young drivers practical, real-world teen driving safety training near Sugar Land and Houston, the experience provides hands-on instruction in a controlled environment. Each year, the program continues to grow, and this time around, we introduced an exciting new element to the curriculum.

Hosted at MSR Houston, the Teen Driving Experience gives students from all over the Greater Houston area the opportunity to practice important driving techniques at a professional motorsports facility. The program is designed to help new and experienced teen drivers develop safer driving habits, build confidence behind the wheel, and gain valuable experience beyond a traditional driver’s education course.

For the first time, students were able to explore the fundamentals of performance driving through a professional-grade racing simulator, thanks to our partners at Velocity Sim Racing Lounge. The simulator allowed participants to virtually navigate the MSR racetrack, giving them a realistic feel for vehicle control, racing lines, and track awareness before getting behind the wheel.

Adding the simulator created another dimension to the learning experience. Teens weren’t just learning concepts; they also received coaching and reinforcement on braking zones, turning techniques, and situational awareness in a safe environment. Integrating simulation technology into the program helps reinforce defensive driving techniques and teen driver safety skills engagingly and memorably.

Beyond the simulator, students participated in five hands-on driving safety exercises, each designed to enhance critical driving skills. These exercises focused on essential fundamentals such as vehicle control, braking technique, obstacle avoidance, and awareness behind the wheel—skills that every teen driver in the Houston and Sugar Land area should practice, but might rarely get the opportunity to experience in a safe, supervised setting.

By combining classroom-style instruction, simulation, and real driving exercises, the Teen Driving Experience provides a well-rounded approach to driver education and safety training. Experiences like this reinforce the importance of responsible driving habits and help young drivers develop skills they’ll carry with them long after graduating from the experience.
