Welcome to the New Reality | HoloLens 2
The HoloLens 2 meets Mercedes-Benz
As Mercedes-Benz vehicles become more compact with computerized machines and other technology, the work required to keep them on the road has become more complex. However, the next time you bring in your car to get repaired, an augmented-reality might be the one helping the mechanic figure out what’s wrong.
Mercedes-Benz USA outfitted all of its authorized American dealerships with the all new HoloLens 2 VR headsets. This device comes equipped with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Remote Assist which diagnoses problems with the vehicle and resolves them in hours rather than days. The tools allow technicians at the dealership to get remote assistance in real time from a faraway expert. Technicians will slide the HoloLens 2 headset on and tap into Mercedes-Benz’ vast ecosystem of remote technical specialists with particular expertise across its various car lines. The network ranges from Mercedes-Benz field experts in the US all the way to Germany that will be able to work together in real-time.
Once the HoloLens 2 is on the service technicians head, he/she is then paired with the remote technical specialist, via Dynamics 365 Remote Assist. This is when the problem solving begins. The remote specialist, who is watching from a laptop or desk, can now virtually see a 3D hologram of the engine or problem area. Too add to that, the remote specialist can draw on the hologram to show the technician exactly what wire or specific area to fix. This whole time the technician has both their hands free to use the tools and even has the option to look back at the specialists shared diagrams and notes.
In result, the hope is that the HoloLens 2 will help expedite and ease vehicle repairs. The overall training time becomes more efficient as well as the accuracy of the repair. This might be the beginning of a new reality in the car world.
